This opportunity is suited to a skilled mechanic with practical experience diagnosing, maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles, including commercial trucks, buses and related vehicle systems. The successful candidate will help ensure that vehicles operate safely, reliably and efficiently by performing scheduled maintenance, identifying mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out repairs and completing thorough inspections. Working in a professional workshop alongside other mechanics, you will use mechanical knowledge, electronic diagnostic equipment and specialist tools to investigate vehicle problems and determine appropriate repair solutions. The role requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, braking systems, transmissions, electrical components and preventive maintenance procedures. You should be comfortable troubleshooting complex mechanical faults, following workshop safety procedures and maintaining accurate service records. Perform scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance and routine mechanical inspections. Identify defective, damaged or worn components and repair, adjust or replace them as required. Use electronic diagnostic scanners, testing equipment, workshop tools and technical information to identify faults accurately. Investigate engine performance issues, starting problems, fluid leaks, unusual noises and other reported vehicle concerns. Inspect vehicle systems and components to identify potential safety risks and prevent unexpected breakdowns. Carry out repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications, workshop procedures and applicable safety requirements. Test repaired systems and verify that completed work meets applicable operational and safety standards. Conduct post-repair checks and report any outstanding faults or additional maintenance requirements. Maintain accurate records of inspections, diagnostic findings, parts replaced, repairs completed and preventive maintenance performed. Communicate repair findings and technical concerns to supervisors and other team members. Coordinate with fellow mechanics to prioritise jobs, manage workloads and complete repairs efficiently. Maintain clean, organised and safe work areas, tools and equipment. Follow workshop health and safety procedures when handling tools, vehicle components, fluids and mechanical equipment.
